The Board and staff of the Australian Scholarships Group continue to extend their heart-felt condolences to all those families who have lost loved ones or had their homes ravaged by the bushfires and floods.
Community and government agencies are focusing on the replacement of dwellings and have provided temporary accommodation. Various organisations held appeals and some businesses provided temporary financial relief to their customers. Counselling services continue to be provided. All of this is a wonderful response from the Australian Government and the community to those in desperate need.
The Board of ASG was specifically concerned about the effect on the children whose parents have lost their homes in these events. We understand children may have lost school uniforms, books and other school equipment, as well as favourite toys.
In addition to ASG's existing assistance in cases of family hardship, the Board assured Members affected by the floods and bushfires that individually-tailored support for contributions was available and special one-off grants of $1,000 were provided to the enrolled children of ASG Members suffering flood and fire hardship. The grants were paid out of the ASG Founders’ Fund and not from Members’ funds or scholarship pools.
The Board announced that it would suspend repayments on any ASG Home Loan for affected Members for up to three months and no late payment penalties would be charged.
