For 20 years the ASG National Excellence in Teaching Awards have given communities the opportunity to formally thank their hard-working and inspirational educators and leaders.

In 2013, more than 1550 nominations were received from parents, grandparents, secondary student councils, school boards/councils, parent associations, committees of management and community organisations who wanted to celebrate outstanding educators in their communities.

Nominations for the 2013 awards closed on 31 July 2013, and the 698 finalists were announced on September 20 2013.

On October 25 2013, 60 teachers were announced as the State and Territory Award recipients. In March the National Award recipients will be announced. Amazing professional development and project grants are available at the National Award level, as well as one lucky teacher getting the incredible opportunity to go to Space Camp in the US. National Awards are granted across different categories including leadership and development, innovation, and community engagement. One teacher is also awarded the Disability Inclusion Grant.

At a ceremony in Melbourne on March 28, 2014, 12 teachers from across Australia were announced as the 12 National Award recipients.
