2013 ASG NEiTA Awards for Inspirational Educators
Now in its 20th year, the National Excellence in Teaching Awards (NEiTA) program, supported by the Australian Scholarships Group (ASG), gives communities the opportunity to formally thank their hard-working and inspirational educators and leaders.
This year, NEiTA received 1558 nominations from parents, grandparents, secondary student councils, school boards/councils, parent associations, committees of management and community organisations who wanted to celebrate outstanding educators in their communities.
Nominations for the 2013 awards closed on 31 July 2013, and the 698 finalists were announced on September 20.
On October 25, 60 teachers were announced as the State and Territory Award recipients. Early next year, NEiTA will announce the National Award recipients. Amazing professional development and project grants are available at the National Award level, as well as one lucky teacher getting the incredible opportunity to go to Space Camp in the US. National Awards are granted across four categories: leadership and development, innovation, community engagement, and for the first time for 2013, languages other than English. One teacher is also awarded the Disability Inclusion Grant.
ASG formed the NEiTA Foundation in 1994 to promote public recognition of inspirational educators and leaders in Australian and New Zealand schools and early childhood centres.
