It’s time to get involved

One way to impress mum, dad or your friends is to whip up a meal for them. Here is some helpful advice and elements to include in your meal.

  • strength foods like fish, eggs, meat, chicken, chickpeas, tofu, milk and yoghurt

  • energy food like whole grains, brown rice, multigrain bread

  • three different coloured vegetables and fruits: choose one red, one green, one orange or yellow

Meal ideas:

  • Breakfast: porridge with fruits, fruit pancakes, mushroom/ spinach and red capsicum

  • Lunch: sushi, wraps, soup

  • Dinner: pizza, hamburgers, nachos, frittatas, kebabs

  • Snacks: muesli cookies, veggie pancakes, smoothies, yoghurt with fruit faces, veggie sticks and dips.

Tips for working in the kitchen:

Be clean both before and after cooking. This includes:

  • washing your hands before you start

  • washing veggies

  • tidying up as you go (put dishes in the sink)

Be careful with:

  • knives, peelers, graters that are sharp. Use kid-safe equipment or ask mum or dad to show you how to properly use kitchen equipment.

  • things that are hot. Always use an oven mitt when putting things in or out of the oven  or microwave or ask for help.
