To give your child the best start in life, preparing for their education is vital. The secret is to start preparing while they are still young.

The Education Fund (TEF) is designed to help you pay for the basics during your child’s secondary schooling. Think expenses like uniforms, textbooks and sport equipment.

TEF also encourages your child to pursue a post-secondary qualification by paying them a scholarship if they undertake further study following secondary school. Our members have told us that this aspect of TEF is a key motivator for their children, giving them financial independence and the freedom to focus on their studies.

What you need to know
  • Enrolment is open to any child under 10 years of age.
  • Make contributions from as low as $9.61 per week, depending on the age of your child.
  • Make monthly, quarterly, half yearly or yearly payments, or opt to pay a once-off lump sum.
  • Your contributions will be returned to you while your child is at secondary school.
  • Earnings on pooled contributions will be returned to your child as a scholarship payment if they pursue approved post-secondary studies.

Over the past 25 years, ASG has played a key role in supporting New Zealand families plan and save for the cost of education.  Over this time, we have supported the education journey of many New Zealand families and we currently have over 10,000 children enrolled in our New Zealand scholarship plans.

ASG has enjoyed supporting New Zealand families for many years, however given the growing cost of marketing and distributing our products and after a comprehensive review of our operations, we have made the decision to discontinue distributing our scholarship plans to the New Zealand market.  As such, we will not be accepting any new members in our New Zealand scholarship plans.  Importantly, we will continue to support you and all our existing New Zealand members and we do not foresee any impact on your benefit entitlements, or other rights, as current members of our funds.  There is no change to your ability to contribute to current funds and ASG will continue to provide ongoing service and support to assist you through our Customer Care Centre, that supports both our Australian and New Zealand members.  The only change is that new and existing members will not be able enrol in any further New Zealand scholarship plans.

ASG is in a sound financial position and this decision will assist in ensuring that ASG maintains that healthy position into the future.
